Rose McGowan is the new Charmed recruit. From the start of the fourth season, she will replace Shannen Doherty and steps in the series as Paige, a hidden sister of the Halliwell’s. Q: The public knows little about you for now. Could you quickly introduce yourself?
A: I was born in Florence, Italy, from a French mother and an Irish father. My parents were in a sect and I received a peculiar education? Nevertheless we lived in an idealistic setting, in the middle of magnificent flower field. At the time, I had a little lamb that followed me everywhere and that I loved very much. Sadly, one day he disappeared and I never saw him again. Later I understood he ended up in a plate! Finally, my parents decided to leave their sect and we went to live in the United States.
Q: What kind of child were you?
A: I learned to read when I was three and, from that moment on, I shut myself up in an imaginary world. For example, depending the book I’d just read I’d play a different role every day. That’s how, without knowing it, I started to learn acting. Still, I don’t have fond memories of that time. My parents often ignored me and they weren’t interested in what I did. They barely noticed I was there. When I became a teenager things got more complicated. An experience notably traumatized me for life?
Q: What happened?
A: When I was fourteen my mother made me go into detox even though I didn’t take drugs at all. Since I always dressed in black and I was very skinny and pale, one of her lovers thought I was doing drugs. As a result, my mother forced me into this horrible establishment where I went through real mental torture. When I got out of that clinic I took my stuff and I left my home without knowing where to go. For a year I lived from day to day without having any real lodging. But I’d rather not linger on that time of my life. I lived through so many incredible and sordid things that I can’t believe I’m still alive?
Q: To believe certain pictures, nudity doesn’t really pose problems for you?
A: Contrary to certain actresses I’m not the kind of girl who kindly poses wearing a pretty T-shirt with a little heart on it? It’s not really my style. I’d rather provoke and shock people. It amuses me a lot! Although, because of that, a lot of people think I’m a bad girl. When I was dating Marilyn Manson, people thought we spent our time torturing animals in our bedroom.
Q: Did you find a successor to Marilyn Manson?
A: Yes, I’m now dating Kip Pardue. We met on the set of Rat In The Can, a movie that will come out soon. Since then, we’ve worked together on another movie, Vacuums.
Q: Even if you worked on numerous movies, our readers mostly know you from your role in Scream?
A: Curiously, it’s true that people still stop me on the street to tell me I loved you in Scream! And yet, that movie came out a while ago and I only make a small apparition. After that I had a lot of difficulties to find roles that really suited me and I didn’t work very much. I sincerely hope that the role of Paige Halliwell will give a second breath to my career.
Q: Did you hesitate a lot when you were proposed the role in Charmed?
A: Yes, I thought about it a lot. At first, I must admit I found that proposition weird. Until now I’d never thought about working on television. Furthermore, in the past, I even swore I’d never work on a series! But I always was unexpected in my choices and I wanted to try something new. Today I don’t regret throwing myself into this adventure. Charmed is a fantastic show that allows actors to fully express themselves. In each episode, there’s comedy, feelings, drama, action scenes. How could I ask for more?
